Most important things for my new family to know about me:
Â
I bond closely to my people and love to be around them.Â
My ideal home would be with someone who works from home or is home more than away.Â
I’m pretty low key for a GSP
I am friendly and have an easygoing temperament
I’m eager to please and am trainable.Â
I am good with children.
Hi, everyone! I’m Winston (Winnie), a lovable 2-yr.-old GSP mix. No one is absolutely sure what I’m mixed with but I kind of think a hound. I’m not your typical high-energy GSP. Although I love to play with my humans and canine foster brother, I am also perfectly content to relax with my family. I can be a bit cautious when meeting new people but warm up quickly, and I’m wonderfully gentle around children. But you need to know that I have no had experience with cats yet.
I am fully potty trained with no accidents and I know several basic commands like sit, come, and no. My name recall is impressive, especially considering I’ve only known it for six months! I walk nicely on a leash with minimal pulling and haven’t needed much crate time - Iprefer to be near my people, whether lounging around during the day or sleeping nearby at night (on the floor, on my dog bed, or the couch).Â
When my foster mom and dad are gone, I’m inside, usually free in the house with the other two dogs (one is an alpha GSP mix). I love to spend time on the couch but I’m also happy on dog beds or even the floor. I don’t seem to require as much exercise as most GSPs but I do get a daily walk for about 30 minutes. I do like off-leash exercise too like at a really big dog park last week I was always scanning for my foster mom and dad in the crowd. I also played well with other dogs and responded to voice commands. I can manage around a dominant dog by just ignoring him if I don’t like the dog. And I won’t play with the female dog I live with at all when she tries to play with me. But I do like to play with the foster family’s male dog who is more submissive. I am part GSP but my prey drive is not intense. I do, however, pull on my leash and whine on a walk when I see bunnies!
One of my habits you need to know about is that I love food and will look for it!. If we are left alone for a while and I’m not in my crate, I can find food to nibble on, even flour and chia seeds! Crazy, I know. And I’m not much of a fan of car rides and bees. Ineed a little help getting into the car and tend to drool when I’mfeeling stressed. Once we reach our destination, though, I’mright back to my happy, relaxed self. And when bees are around, I make quick movements to get away from them. But my foster mom and dad describe me as loving, friendly and very easy going.        Â
I recently completed heartworm treatment and am now healthy, happy, and full of new energy for life. I’m a gentle, loyal, and loving companion, ready to bring joy to my forever home.
