What my new family should know about me:

1) I am rarely still until after dinner. I just want to run . . . run . . .  run all day.

2) I’m quite independent.

3) I am good with other dogs and like to play with them but I respect their boundaries.  

4) So, I would like at least one other active dog in my new family, one who likes to play.

5) Although I like being with people, I’m not really an affectionate, cuddly girl.

6) I think I would be OK with cats

I’m MAIZIE and I came to the rescue from Arkansas. I’m a purebred GSP, 5-1/2  years old and so full of energy. I mean, SO full! Being outside most of the day running, stalking squirrels as they run along the fence, or jumping up on tree trunks trying to reach them . . . that’s what I do all day long. And I can jump so high, at least 4 ft off the ground. Seriously! When it starts to getsdark, though, I give in because I also like being inside on a dog bed in the living room, hanging out with my foster mom and her dogs. At night I sleep on my own dog bed right next to my foster mom. I love resting my head on the bolster so I sleep very soundly all through the night. And no wonder, after the hours of exercise that I get every day!

Of course, I am house-broken and leash-trained. Using a no-pull harness really helps me walk without pulling too much. I know all the basic commands like sit, stay, come, down, off and lie down. I’m crate-trained too but in my foster home I really don’t need to be in a crate. As long as I have dog company when my foster mom is gone for an hour or two, I’m just fine being loose in the house with the other dogs. If I’m by myself, however, I do have separation anxiety. All of us dogs are very active, going in and outside much of the day. But let’s face it, I’m almost always outdoors, anyway. I like having the other dogs around and I sometimes like to play with them. But I’m pretty tuned in to other dogs’ boundaries and actually like to be off on my own, too. In addition to all my time in a very secure back yard (6-ft high privacy fence), I love off leash running several times a week. I really do have a lot of energy, even for a GSP and I need that exercise to calm down at the end of the day. When I was with my owner in AR, I loved to play frisbee and go to the river or lake to spend time in the water. I love car rides and I Iove ice cream. And do I ever like zoomies. I can spin many times, so fast!

I’m a happy girl and don’t bark very much except if I’m letting you know that someone is around. I’m very friendly to everyone and every dog, even cats. And I’m a good listener, too.  Although I like being with people, I am not really a cuddly, affectionate girl. I either just want to be on my own, or I’m too busy, or I’m off to stalk, or run, run, run. Until the end of a very active day, I just don’t sit still. I’m looking for a home that is very active and where I won’t spend very much time at all alone. It will be best for me to have another playful dog, too.
