POCO

Here are some important things for my new family to know about me:

1) I LOVE being outdoors running, walking, snooping and going in the car.

2) NO CATS in my new home! I’m very prey driven.

3) I love having other active dogs in my home to play, scout and nap with.

4) I’m very affectionate.

5) I love sleeping with my person and don’t want him or her to be gone from home for too long.

6) I am eager to please and catch on quickly.

I’m POCO, a 4-year-old purebred German Shorthaired Pointer, and just arrived in the rescue from New

Mexico. Life with my mom and two other dogs was very good. She spent lots of time with us almost every

day and we did lots of snuggling. But my mom passed away quite suddenly so everything in my life changed

over just a couple of days. Now I am in Colorado and need to find a safe and very loving new home.

I really enjoy being with other dogs which is good because I am currently in a foster home that has 3 GSPs.

And I LOVE to be with my person. Actually, now that I have adjusted to my new surroundings, I just really love

all people! For the first few days in my current home, though, I was very confused, not understanding what

had happened, why I was in a place I didn’t recognize. I wasn’t sure about the other dogs and . . . this is

IMPORTANT . . . I was desperate to get to the cats in the family. I’ve been completely separated from them

which is a good thing!

But now, I am really happy to be with the other dogs, 2 females and a male. I like to play with them as well as

snuggle up with them in a dog bed. I am not good at all being in a crate, so at night I get to sleep with my

foster mom which is how I slept with my mom back in NM. That is the very best. My foster mom has learned

that I am a very affectionate little girl. But like most GSPs, especially young ones like me, I have lots of GSP

energy. I love walks and especially hikes, but because I haven’t been trained on a training collar, I need to be

leashed. Being trained to be off leash will be one of the first things I want to learn with my new family. My

foster mom says I am very trainable because I have shown her that I really want to do the right thing. I’m very

eager to please.

My foster mom learns more and more about me every day, but she also knows my background:

“She was sheltered in her previous life with few experiences outside her home. So, she needs to get out and

experience walks, nature, people! It’s all new to her, but she’s loving it. She is gaining confidence with each

passing day – meeting people, new dogs, joggers, creeks, bike riders.”
