Rooster - Unavailable

Updated: Oct 12

Most important things for my new family to know about me:

1)  I must have a secure yard because I have escaped my yard and killed chickens.

2)  Clearly, I have a very strong prey drive – no cats!     3)  I love having other dogs to play with.

4)  I love my people and am great with kids, even toddlers.

5)  I need recall training.

6)  I’m very playful and very affectionate.

I’m Rooster a 2-1/2 year-old, purebred GSP who, like most young GSPs, has tons of energy. I have learned some important basic commands – sit, down and off – and, of course, I am house-broken so I never have accidents in the house. And I am crate trained, too. I am a really friendly dog and am good with anyone – adults, children, even toddlers. My mom and dad sure love me but some of our neighbors do not. That’s because I have loved their chickens too much, way too much, and my owners can’t seem to keep me where I belong. But that’s because they don’t have fencing that will restrain me. They can’t really keep me contained so when I escape, I go straight to the neighbor’s chicken coop and . . . yup, their chickens are my best meal. It’s obvious that I need to work on the recall command, but that would not deter me from the chickens because my prey drive is so strong. I need training but I also need a very secure fence. Note: I can’t be with cats!

I do love my people but I also really enjoy being with dogs. I am very playful so I am great not only playing with kids but also with other pups. Although I am crate trained, I sleep with my mom and dad and I love that. I am not at all aggressive; in fact, even though I love playing with them, I’m pretty submissive around other dogs. In fact, in the past I used to be kenneled outdoor with the other dogs in my family but now that I have been escaping to visit chickens, I have to be kenneled inside, sometimes for 8-10 hours. That is not good for any GSP, but especially for me. But unfortunately, mom and dad just don’t have time to give me the off-leash exercise that I need or to train me to stay close to home, so I really need to find a new home quickly. The neighbors are pretty upset and mom and dad know they must find a new family for me right away.

I love to play with balls and a stuffed chicken (!) and other stuffed animals and, of course, with children and other dogs. I am such a sweet, gentle and affectionate boy but, obviously, I do like an adventure. My new family will need to train me how important recall is and once I can recall quickly, I will need to have a lot more off leash exercise than I have had.
