Jack

  1. I love spending most of the day outside running, scouting, surveying, playing with other dogs. I have lots of energy.

  2. So, I really like being with other dogs and would like at least one other playful dog in my new family . . . but I wouldn’t be good with cats.

  3. I LOVE being with my own person and other people too.  I’m quite affectionate.

  4. My foster mom says I am a wonderful old soul. I hope that’s a good thing.

  5. I don’t know a lot of commands, other than come, sit and no. But I’m learning . . .

JACK here! I’m 2 years old and, as you can see, I am a purebred GSP. I’ve come to Colorado from Utah and I’m having the best time in my foster home with other dogs and a fenced backyard where I spend most of every day. My owner, an older man, surrendered me to a shelter because I had too much energy for him. I do have energy but I am a real lover, as well.

All 5 of us dogs go in and outside all day long because we have a dog door. I spend more time than any of the other dogs outside and am so happy to have the freedom to come and go. We have a 6-foot privacy fence and there are lots of squirrels that run the top of the fence. I’m content just running along the fence and have never tried to challenge it. I love the backyard which is very large and has lots of trees and shrubs which are great for snooping and stalking. Although I am strong, I’m OK on a leash. I do pull but I’m not obnoxious. I haven’t been off leash on trails or in fields yet but my recall is excellent so I’m pretty sure I would be a great hiking partner.

Inside the house, I’m a very good boy. I am house broken so I’m given free rein in the house. My foster mom has never crated me because I’m not really destructive (OK, I have chewed on a couple of spare dog collars) and I love being part of the family. Inside, we all hang out together because all five of us get along so well. I love dog beds and I sleep on one when I take a break during the day but also every night. We have a lot of dog beds in the house, so I have my choice. At the end of a day, I love to collapse on one of those beds. Or even better, lie on the couch next to my foster mom with my head in her lap or with one or two of the other dogs. There is no better way to end a day.

I am a really easy-going pup who loves to be with other dogs and my person. I do need to learn how important “off” and “down” are but my mom is working on those commands with me. I also have one annoying habit, according to my foster mom: I love to drag a towel or a blanket outside with me. I don’t do much with them but I kind of like the game of grabbing something and darting outside. The most important things to know about me are my easy-going temperament, my ease in being with other dogs, my love of affection and family, and, of course, my love of the outdoors. I’m a happy boy and I just love life!
