Alumni Spotlight: Daisy, Izzy and the Novak Family!

“Daisy came into our lives 9 months ago with her burly hound like bark and her gentle eyes. She’s the sweetest goofball! She has taken on a motherly role with our children, always keeping a watchful eye on our girls ages 3 and 6. Izzy, a recent addition to our family, charmed her way into our hearts with her gentle personality and happy disposition. We were totally smitten with these two from the moment we met them! They’ve completed our family in more ways than we could have imagined. After having a rough start for their first few years of life, these two will spend the rest of their lives surrounded by love, smothered in kisses and wrapped in soft blankies.”– The Novak Family Read more →

A Tribute to Niko, Judy and Their Pack

The shelter called at the end of October, 2004. They had a 5-month-old male GSP diagnosed with hip dysplasia and something was odd about both his back legs. He ran funny. He would never be adopted so they would have to euthanize him. Could we take him instead? I was a volunteer for a GSP rescue and was on my way to pick him up practically before I hung up the phone. Huffington Post: Do You Love Your Dog More Than Humans?

Puppy love is real – and usually healthy.

P. Elizabeth Anderson once had a daughter named Grace. Like any parents would, she and her husband cared for her, nurtured her and tried to keep her out of trouble. They took her on vacations and enjoyed her company around the house. “She was my constant companion,” says Anderson, a journalist in the District of Columbia.

So when Grace died unexpectedly at age 14, the couple was crushed. But because Grace was a dog, “I was unable to talk to anyone about this immense grief,” says Anderson, who wrote the book “The Powerful Bond between People and Pets: Our Boundless Connections to Companion Animals.” Read more →

A Tribute for Tucker and His Family

Tucker G. Hoffarth. So many people knew about and loved him. But no one loved Tucker like his mom Catherine, his dad Robin, his brother Travis and his GSP buddies, Bailey Joy, Samantha and Boomer.  But Tucker loved them just as much. In fact, he picked them. Read more →

A Tribute to Gage and Brandi

Mile High GSP Rescue said goodbye to its founding pup last night. Gage and Brandi and Al Anderson started MHGSP Rescue in 2008 out of great concern for the many GSPs who continue to be so in need of finding new, loving homes. Gage found his amazing mom in 2001 and it was instant joy and love for both of them. Our logo at the top of this page is Gage so he has a permanent and prominent place. Read more →

A great photo of MHGSPR Alum Remi getting some love from his new parents, George and Mary! In his new home, he gets to go for walks at least twice per day, gets regular visits from their grand dog and is really sweet and gentle with their grand baby. He has settled in with George and Mary like he’s lived there his entire life!

Sophie’s Success Story!

Let us introduce you to Sophie! A GSP/GWP mix, Sophie came into our rescue at the end of Februry 2015 and was adopted less than 5 days later. She was with us such a short time because one of our former adopting families, Jim and Mary Woodruff, said, “We want her” before we could even get her on the website. Jim and Mary have another GWP, Gunner, who is the most hilarious GWP we’ve ever met. He makes you laugh just to look at him! When they realized, over a year and a half ago that Gunner needed a buddy, they adopted our wonderful GSP, Diesel. Read more →
